CESNUR 2005 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

RELIGIOUS MOVEMENTS, GLOBALIZATION, AND CONFLICT:
TRANSNATIONAL PERSPECTIVES

June 2-5, 2005
Palermo, Sicily, Italy

Organised by CESNUR (Center for Studies on New Religions), Torino, Italy
in co-operation with ISAR (Institute for the Study of American Religion), Santa Barbara, California, and the Region of Sicily, Italy.

This international conference will be an opportunity for scholars and others from around the world to share their insights about the perceptions, reactions, conflict and adaptations of individuals, religions and secular institutions to globalization and to the growing diversity to be found in many countries. The conference will allow for the discussion, clarification and exchange of information and will be an opportunity for participants to develop wider networks.
Field trips will be arranged. The conference will be held at a resort hotel. See the registration package: the resort offers special rate

CALL FOR PAPERS

It is hoped that speakers will come from a broad range of disciplines, including sociology, anthropology, social psychology, history of religion, law, religious studies and theology.

Themes may include:
New religious movements, violence and conflict
Religious liberty issues: transnational perspectives
Fundamentalist movements in international perspective
New Religious Movements and globalization

Abstracts of between 100 and 200 words and a short c.v. (mandatory) should have been sent to CESNUR, Via Confienza 19, 10121 Torino, Italy, before February 15, 2005 preferably by E-mail at cesnur_to@virgilio.it. This term has now expired but papers will still be accepted as the programme allows until a preliminary programme is posted.
